2027 Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, begins on the first day of the lunar calendar — between January 21 and February 20 — and is the most important holiday in China and for Chinese communities worldwide. It triggers the largest annual human migration, 'chunyun', as hundreds of millions travel home for the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. Traditions include cleaning the house to sweep away bad luck, hanging red couplets, setting off firecrackers, giving red envelopes (hongbao) of money, and eating dumplings and fish. The official holiday lasts seven days and celebrations continue until the Lantern Festival on the 15th day. This countdown ticks to midnight Beijing time; note that Korea's Seollal can fall a day later in some years.
