2027 Hùng Kings' Festival

Hùng Kings' Festival falls on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, usually in April, and honours the Hùng kings, the legendary rulers of Văn Lang who are regarded as the founders of Vietnam. It has been a national public holiday since 2007, and the Worship of Hùng Kings in Phú Thọ was inscribed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage in 2012. Grand ceremonies with incense offerings and palanquin processions are held at the Hùng Temple complex on Nghĩa Lĩnh mountain in Phú Thọ province, where hundreds of thousands of pilgrims climb to the upper temple. Communities across the country hold their own rites and contests to make bánh chưng and bánh giầy, the sticky rice cakes linked to the legend of Prince Lang Liêu. When it falls near a weekend or near the April 30 and May 1 holidays it creates a long break with heavy travel. This countdown ticks to midnight Hanoi time on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month.
